Here's a sample of Ms. Poretz' work.
A Story
The infant cries,
sharp blades through the ice cold dark.
She is in the world now, wanting.
Soon she will be drunk on wanting
and later, caught in the maw of time,
bloodied, delirious with it,
she will not know
why or what
she wants, until
the wind taking pity on her,
bangs open the backyard door
and pulls her into night;
and she, solitary,
hears her own heart beating to a
million billion stars, their every voice entreating:
Want this.
Want only
this.
